TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

PEER-MENTOR TRAINING

Young people who participate in a Space4Us program will also get an opportunity to do a one-day peer-mentor training session. This will enable them to participate in future programs as a mentor.

(If you have not participated in the Space4Us program but wish to attend the peer-mentor training session, please e-mail us at Space4Us@wellways.org to get more information prior to registering.)

Peer-mentor training aims to encourage young people and offer a supportive environment in which to reflect on their experiences as a young carer.

The main goals of the program are:

  • To give young people the ability to demonstrate their knowledge while also learning more about mental health, wellbeing, and leadership.

  • To give young people a pathway to take their knowledge and newly learnt skills into the wider community. This pathway may involve working in a local community organisation as a peer mentor, being involved in a support group for young carers, or even demonstrating their skills when applying for a job within the mental-health industry.

Peer-Mentor Training Schedule

We are currently planning our program for 2019.

For more information on peer-mentor training or peer-mentor training for groups, please e-mail Rose Cuff.

FACILITATOR TRAINING

Facilitator training will be offered as a two-day training program. Participants will be introduced to the program’s concepts, structure, and content through a largely experiential style of learning. They will also able to practice by using various activities and resources, with plenty of opportunity to discuss the implementation approaches for delivering a Space4us program in their particular area.

The training programs we have run have been well-attended and well-received. Participants came from a diverse range of organisations, including Austin Health, Midwest Area Mental Health Service, Monash Health, Eastern Health, South West Health Care, Hawthorn Community House, St. Vincent’s Mental Health, VACCA, St. Joseph's College Geelong, Carers Victoria, and Hume Valley School.

It is wonderful that the program is gaining traction and that more people are being trained to deliver the program in their communities.
